the face of Canadian physics

This is a great loss for Canada's physics community, and for the broader scientific community.

In addition to his scientific work, many international physicists of the post-war generation know Professor Stoicheff as THE face of Canadian physics.  This is a testament equally to his important work, and, by all accounts, to his kind and generous nature.
