Catherine is Head of Stakeholder and International Relations for the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), one of seven research councils in the UK, where she is responsible for developing and maintaining STFC’s corporate and international relationships with research funding organisations and government policy makers. Prior to her current role, Catherine was Head of STFC’s Futures Programme, which works with government departments to understand their needs and catalyses activities and projects that address global challenges in energy, the environment, healthcare and security. In 2014 Catherine was seconded to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, where she worked as part of the team that developed “Our Plan for Growth”, the UK Government’s Strategy for Science and Innovation. She has over twenty five years of experience in the UK research council system in corporate strategy, government affairs, change leadership, communications and research administration. Catherine is a member of the Science Europe Working Group on Research Infrastructures and the OECD Global Science Forum Expert Group on RIs. She is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Board for the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham. Catherine has a degree in Botany and a PhD in Plant Sciences.
