DESCRIPTION:Eliane Ubalijoro PhDGlobal Hub Director\, Canada\, Future Earth and Executive Director\, Sustainability in the Digital AgeThe Career Campus series is designed to provide trainees with an opportunity to meet with executives directly and gain new insight into potential career trajectories. \nShort bio: Éliane Ubalijoro\, PhD\, is the Executive Director of Sustainability in the Digital Age and the Future Earth Montreal Hub. Eliane is a Professor of Practice For Public-Private Sector Partnerships at McGill University’s Institute for the Study of International Development\, where her research focuses on innovation\, gender\, sustainable development for prosperity creation and her teaching has focused on facilitating leadership development. She is a Research Professor at Concordia University in the Department of Geography\, Planning and Environment. She is a member of Rwanda’s National Science and Technology Council and Presidential Advisory Council. Eliane is a member of the Impact Advisory Board of the Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet. She is a member of the Expert Consultation Group on the Post COVID-19 Implications on Collaborative Governance of Genomics Research\, Innovation\, and Genetic Diversity. Eliane is a member of the African Development Bank’s Expert Global Community of Practice on COVID-19 Response Strategies in Africa. She is a member of the Capitals Coalition Supervisory Board as well as the Crop Trust Executive Board. Eliane is a former member of WWF International’s Board of Trustees. She was the principal investigator on a Gates Grand Challenges Phase I grant looking at Innovations in Feedback & Accountability Systems for Agricultural Development. Eliane was the project manager and an investigator on a Gates Foundation Grand Challenges in Global Health project led by Professor Timothy Geary\, the director of McGill’s Institute of Parasitology from 2009 to 2014. As a result of this work\, she has been a reviewer for the Grand Challenges Canada Stars in Global Health program since 2012. Eliane is a co-editor of the 2021 book Building Resilient African Food Systems after COVID-19. SUMMARY:Meet the Executives: Remi Quirion
DESCRIPTION:Remi Quirion\, OC\, PhD\, FRSC\, CQ\nProfessor Rémi Quirion is the inaugural Chief Scientist of Quebec since July 2011\, and has been elected President of the International Network for Governmental Science Advice (INGSA) in 2021. As McGill Full Professor\, Psychiatry and outgoing Scientific Director at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute\, he served as Vice-Dean\, Faculty of Medicine at McGill University\, as well as\nSenior University Advisor (Health Sciences Research) in addition to being the CIHR Executive Director\, for Alzheimer’s Diseases\, from 2009 to 2011. Prof. Quirion was the inaugural Scientific Director of the Institute of Neurosciences\, Mental Health and Addiction (INMHA) until March 2009. Since 2011\, he is the President of the three Board of Directors of the Fonds de recherche du Québec. \nIn addition to being on the Advisory Board of over 15 journals in Psychiatry\, Pharmacology\, and Neurosciences\, he has published 5 books\, more than 650 scientific papers and articles. Rémi Quirion has received many awards and recognitions including Officer of the Order of Canada in 2007. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada\, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences\, a Knight of the Ordre national du Québec and a Knight of the Ordre de la Pléiade. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HEREDr. Alejandro Adem\nPresident\, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) \nProfessor Alejandro Adem recently started in a new role as President of NSERC. As a highly accomplished researcher in the field of mathematics and a faculty member at the University of British Columbia\, he has significant leadership experience in research and innovation. Before joining NSERC\, he was CEO and Scientific Director of Mitacs. \nAt Mitacs\, Professor Adem oversaw an unprecedented expansion of its programs\, with the goal of delivering 10\,000 internships annually across Canada and abroad. He worked closely with stakeholders to launch the Mitacs Canadian Science Policy Fellowship in 2016 and established an Indigenous engagement initiative. \nHe has served on a variety of scientific\, editorial\, and governance boards for the worldwide mathematical sciences community\, including the Advisory Board for the Association for Women in Mathematics and the International Mathematical Union’s Committee for Women in Mathematics.

DESCRIPTION:Rob Annan\, President and CEO\n\nAs President and CEO of Genome Canada\, Dr. Annan drives an overarching strategy that promotes the value and potential of genomics in Canada to key stakeholders\, while raising the public profile of Genome Canada both nationally and internationally. He previously served as Genome Canada’s Vice-President of Public Affairs and Communications.  \nAs an innovation strategist and a strong communicator\, Dr. Annan consults with governments\, organizations\, and institutions across Canada on research strategy and speaks regularly with public and private audiences across Canada. As Fellow of the Public Policy Forum\, he has led projects and convened discussions around Canadian research and innovation policy. During seven years at Mitacs\, Dr. Annan helped build a Canadian success story in the development and delivery of policy-driven innovation programs in his role as Chief Research Officer. \nFor several years\, Dr. Annan volunteered on the Board of Directors for Let’s Talk Science\, a national charity dedicated to increasing STEM literacy among K-12 students. He has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from McGill University and undergraduate degrees in English from Queen’s University and in Biology from the University of Victoria.
