Navigating Geopolitical Shifts: Innovation Strategies for Canada’s Economic Future
In light of the shifting geopolitical landscape for our country, CSPC announces an open call for editorials on the challenges facing Canada and how our innovation strategy and policies should be modified to address these challenges.
This call is part of CSPC’s project on National Conversation on Canada’s Innovation Strategy. In 2024, CSPC launched this project to engage industry leaders and experts in discussions on how to reverse Canada’s declining innovation performance.
Senior executives of industry associations, experts, and thought leaders from the Canadian innovation community, as well as federal, provincial, territorial, and municipal governments, innovation networks, and academia, are invited to submit opinion pieces that explore geopolitical uncertainty and its implications for innovation in Canada.
The National Conversation on Canada’s Innovation Strategy will focus on (but not be limited to) these key industrial sectors:
- Advanced Manufacturing (chemical, auto, aerospace, plastics, steel, paper, and others)
- Agriculture & Agrifood (crop/livestock production, food processing, and others)
- Health and Biosciences (pharmaceuticals, medical devices, therapeutics, diagnostics, public health)
- Digital and High-Tech Industries (ICT, artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, and others)
- Natural Resources (mining, forestry, fisheries, oil/gas, renewable energy)
- Clean Tech (energy storage & infrastructure, transportation, water/wastewater, chemistry & materials, recycling & waste, and others)
Editorials will be published on the CSPC website on a rolling basis starting April 2025 until June 4, 2025, and then curated in a Special Digital Edition of the CSPC Magazine later this year.

AI Usage Policy for CSPC Editorials
CSPC editorials must reflect the original thought and voice of the author(s). However, we recognize the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in content creation, research, and productivity.
Authors may use AI tools (e.g., for idea generation, drafting assistance, editing, summarization, or image generation) to support their writing process. All final editorial content must be written, reviewed, verified, and approved by the author(s) to ensure accuracy, clarity, and integrity.
If AI tools are used in any part of the editorial process, authors must include an acknowledgment indicating the use of AI.
CSPC does not permit editorials to be entirely generated by AI without human authorship, accountability, and oversight. Our goal is to promote transparency while supporting responsible and ethical use of technology in science policy dialogue.
