Accelerating Bioplastic Degradation through Microbial enzymes
Connected Conference Theme: Science, Knowledge, and Society
Plastic pollution is a major environmental problem, harming wildlife and ecosystems. While biodegradable plastics like polylactic acid (PLA) are a step in the right direction, they still degrade slowly in natural conditions. Our proposal aims to speed up PLA degradation using special enzymes produced by microbes. We suggest that the government fund research and collaborate with universities, biotech companies, and environmental groups to develop these enzyme-based solutions. By improving how quickly PLA breaks down, we can significantly reduce plastic waste in landfills and oceans. This innovative approach not only helps the environment but also promotes new jobs and economic growth in green technology sectors. Public education campaigns will ensure everyone knows how to properly use and dispose of bioplastics, maximizing their benefits. Our policy is a cutting-edge, practical solution that combines scientific innovation with public involvement to tackle plastic pollution and create a more sustainable future for all.
