As CSPC continues to expand its national reach and programming, we are seeking an experienced and highly organized Director of Programs and Operations to lead the execution and delivery of our growing portfolio of activities.

Position Overview

CSPC is seeking a proactive and highly organized Coordinator, Programs and Legislative Affairs, to lead the operational and logistical delivery of CSPC events, including the Science Meets Parliament program. The successful candidate will be a skilled event coordinator responsible for managing CSPC’s relationships with the Parliament of Canada, the Senate, and provincial and territorial legislatures, while also providing operational support across CSPC’s broader portfolio of programs and events.

Key Responsibilities

Science Meets Parliament (SMP) Coordination & Legislative Outreach

  • Serve as the primary operational lead for the Science Meets Parliament program, managing the end-to-end coordination of program activities.
  • Cultivate and maintain robust professional relationships with offices in Parliament, the Senate, and provincial legislatures to facilitate successful interactions between scientists and policy-makers.
  • Lead the logistical planning for SMP events, including scheduling, briefing document preparation, site coordination, and participant communication.
  • Act as the point of contact for parliamentarians, their staff, and program participants, ensuring a seamless experience.

Program and Event Support

  • Provide operational support for other CSPC programs, including the annual conference, regional events, virtual symposiums, and workshops.
  • Assist in the development of program timelines, work plans, and deliverables to ensure all activities align with CSPC’s strategic pillars: Connection Hub, Knowledge Mobilizers, and Talent Incubators.
  • Draft and edit communication materials, briefing notes, reports, and funding proposals.
  • Support the coordination of volunteer committees as required to ensure successful program execution.

Organizational Excellence

  • Implement project management best practices to track performance and analyze deliverables against requirements.
  • Conduct research and prepare background materials to support the CEO and Program Lead.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases regarding legislative contacts and program stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Science, or related disciplines).
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in program coordination, project management, or event management.
  • Legislative Knowledge: Demonstrated experience or deep familiarity with the Canadian parliamentary process, federal/provincial government structures, and the ability to navigate legislative environments professionally.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders, including senior officials, academics, and private sector representatives.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills (French language proficiency is a significant asset).
    • Proficiency in Google Suite, Zoom, and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • A self-starter who thrives in a remote, independent work environment.
    • Diplomatic, solution-oriented, and attentive to detail.

Qualifications

Education: 

  • Minimum Master's degree in a relevant field: project management, public policy, business administration.

Required

  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in operations, project management, event management, program delivery, or organizational leadership.
  • Extensive experience managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Experience supervising staff and coordinating diverse teams.
  • Experience delivering conferences, events, stakeholder engagement initiatives, or large-scale programs.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.

Strong Assets

  • Experience working in the non-profits, higher education, research, innovation, or public policy sectors.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent. 
  • Bilingualism (English and French).

The Director of Programs and Operations will thrive in a small, dynamic organization where leadership involves both strategic oversight and direct involvement in day-to-day execution. The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between high-level planning, project management, stakeholder engagement, and operational problem-solving as needed.

Employment Details

  • Full-time, remote position
  • Salary: $60,000-67,000 commensurate with experience
